What is Ovral-L?

Ovral L tablet is a birth control pill used to prevent pregnancy. It contains the hormones levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol, which are similar to the natural hormones in a woman’s body. It works by preventing the release of the egg and restricting the movement of the sperm in the womb.

In Contraception:

Ovral L Tablet is a contraceptive medicine that stops you from getting pregnant in multiple ways. Firstly, it prevents an egg from being released from your ovaries. Secondly, it makes the fluid (mucus) in your cervix thicker, which makes it more difficult for sperm to enter the womb. Additionally, it prevents thickening of the lining of your womb, thereby making it unfavourable for an egg to grow in it. Ovral L Tablet is a reliable and safe method for contraception, if used correctly. It does not interrupt with sex and you can lead a normal routine life without any worries. 

Non contraceptive use:

1. Abnormal uterine bleeding: When you have abnormal menses or painful menses.
2. Endometriosis
3. Hirsutism
4. Polycystic ovary syndrome

Pregnancy

Can I take Ovral L tablet during pregnancy?

Ovral L tablet should not be used during pregnancy as it is used to stop or prevent pregnancy. When pregnancy is detected, this medicine should be discontinued immediately and should consult your doctor.

Breast Feeding

Can I take Ovral L tablet while breastfeeding?

A:

Ovral L tablet should not be used during breastfeeding as it passes into the breastmilk and may harm the breastfed baby. Moreover, it may also lead to a reduction in the amount of milk produced and may affect its quality. It is generally not recommended until the nursing mother has completely stopped breastfeeding her child or for up to 6 months from childbirth.

Driving

Can I drive if I have consumed Ovral L tablet?

It is not expected that Ovral L tablet will affect your ability to drive but if you do not feel well or are unable to be alert, you should avoid driving.

Alcohol

Can I consume alcohol with Ovral L tablet?

A:

The consumption of alcohol does not affect the efficacy of Ovral L tablet. These tablets can enhance the effects of alcohol and affect you adversely. Hence, it is best advised to avoid consuming alcohol while taking these tablets.
